It’s summer time, and that means lots of playing outside in the summer sun. And when kids play in the heat, they sweat, and when they sweat, they get thirsty. Water is the best way to rehydrate, in the summer or any time of year!
Our community partners and Let’s Go! schools, child care, and after school programs already know that their toolkits contain great resources for helping kids understand the importance of limiting or eliminating sugary beverages (Evidence-based Strategy #2: Provide water and low-fat milk; limit or eliminate sugary beverages). Resources like How Much Sugar Do You Drink? and Think Your Drink from our toolkits offer great tips and motivation for making the healthier choice when it comes to kids’ drinks.
And since it’s summertime, why not take it a step further? Soda Free Summer lets you make a pledge online to be soda free all summer. When you sign up, you’ll get an online tracking tool to log your progress, and even a chance to win prizes through the Soda Free Summer raffle. Soda Free Summer also offers tools and resources to complement what Let’s Go! has to offer. They’ve developed three-day curriculums for elementary and middle school students, which could be useful for Summer Programs looking to bolster their healthy eating and active living programming.
So, if you’re game to kick the can, rethink your drink, and stop the pop, check out Soda Free Summer. Let us know what you think in the comments section, below!
