Sugar Sweetened Beverages and Weight Gain

Authored By Dr. Tory Rogers

A recent New York Times article did a great job highlighting the importance of two new studies, published in The New England Journal of Medicine, providing further evidence linking sugary drinks to obesity. This article further demonstrates that sugary drinks can be a major factor in putting on pounds for adolescents. The article also highlighted what many of us already know: “that water is the best form of hydration for all of us.” And here in Maine we have wonderful tap water – free to all and always available! And as you all know – we have great resources here on our website about the importance of drinking water and low fat milk.

For more information about the new study view the NBC News clip below to hear my colleague, David Ludwig, MD talk about his research. Dr. Ludwig will be joining us this Thursday and Friday at the Let’s Go! Healthcare conference here in Portland, Maine.
