Wells-Ogunquit School District Featured Lunch

School districts that participate in Let’s Go! School Nutrition Workgroups are always taking steps to raise the caliber of their programs – here is just one example!

On January 30th, ‘A Taste of Asia’ was featured in the cafeterias of Wells High School and Wells Junior High School. Students had a choice of many fresh ingredients including water chestnuts, scallions, peppers, snow peas, onions, and mushrooms to go along with chicken and brown rice, all served by their favorite teachers and principals.

At the high school, teacher Andy Lopez and School Nutrition Director Tyler Goodwin cooked on gas burners to serve 160 hot meals. At the junior high school, 225 students were served by Goodwin, Principal Chris Chessie and Assistant Principal Bob Griffin.

Goodwin says that while he and the special helpers of the day cook out front and take special orders, his food service staff prepare the ingredients.

Throughout lunchtime, Goodwin reported hearing many positive comments such as; “my favorite lunch”, “best lunch ever” and “you should do this every day.” Best of all, there is no extra charge on special days like this. Hot lunch at Wells-Ogunquit High School costs $2.75. The price at the junior high is $2.50.
